home again, home again
It's nice to be in my own house, although the air quality here is definitely worse than San Marcos. From what I can see, much of the town is back to business--as--usual mode, although it's still impossible for several of my teacher friends to make it to their homes.
We drove around the Vineyard golfcourse yesterday to take a look at some of the damage.
Several houses were burned to the ground, some without even a wall standing. The destruction seemed almost arbitrary with houses next door to each other being spared and then one slightly set-back completely gone.
One house had nothing remaining except a basketball hoop and a metal lawn chair. The fore burned right through all of the brush to the edge of the golf course, but it stopped there.
I feel awful for those in our community who have lost homes.
